Junior Golf

At Cypress Knoll, the following principles are what make up our Junior Golf Program:

  • Fun and emotionally safe

  • Athletic and movement-based

  • Simple and visual

  • Game-driven

  • Etiquette-rich

  • Creative and exploratory

  • Parent-supported

  • Effort-focused

We believe that we should MAKE GOLF FUN. We don’t “add fun” - we build the lesson around it.

We believe that we should Teach Athletic Motion Before Mechanics. Try to treat golf like a movement sport, not a technical one.

We believe in keeping Instructions Simple and Visual. Kids learn through pictures, not paragraphs.

We believe in Using Games to Teach Skills. Games are the backbone of junior development.

We Teach Etiquette and Sportsmanship. We do this through experience, not lectures.

We Encourage Creativity and Exploration. Kids become better golfers when they’re allowed to experiment.

We believe in Involving Parents in a Positive Way. We actually coach parents as much as the kids.

We believe in Celebrating Effort, Not Perfection. We believe that this is the hallmark of every elite junior coach.

If I could tell parents one thing that would get their children interested in golf, I would tell them: “Your child will fall in love with golf when they feel joy and success on the course—not pressure, not perfection.”

When kids hear:

  • “Did you have fun?”

  • “What did you learn today?”

Kids will stay:

  • stay in the game longer

  • develop better emotional control

  • become more coachable

  • improve faster

  • build a healthier relation with competition
